ΤHERAPYNEURO
Improving quality of life for people with neurological conditions.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), neurological disorders are conditions or injuries affecting the brain, spine, cranial and peripheral nerves, muscles and neuromuscular junctions. These conditions can result in reduced movement and sensation, weakness, pain, spasticity, low muscle tone, and impaired balance and coordination. Cognitive difficulties may also occur, including problems with memory, speech and concentration.
WHO IT IS FOR AND WHEN IT CAN HELP
Patients with a range of neurological dysfunctions, including stroke, headaches, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, upper motor neurone disease, brain tumours, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries and paraplegia, can join the TherapyNeuro therapeutic exercise pathway.
Specialist physiotherapists first assess movement and function, along with the challenges each patient faces at work and in social activities. This helps us understand their needs, concerns and priorities. We work actively with the patient to agree achievable goals and create a personalised therapeutic exercise programme. Structured strategies and gradually increasing difficulty take them from smaller goals to larger ones. Independent walking, for example, may seem very difficult at first but can become achievable step by step.
WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE, AND WHY IS IT SUITABLE FOR YOU?
The TherapyNeuro therapeutic exercise plan can improve stability, endurance, balance, motor learning and coordination, and help manage and/or reduce motor and sensory deficits. This enables patients to achieve functional goals more effectively, including walking, going up and down stairs, standing up and sitting down, and remaining upright. We also support their return to self-care activities such as dressing, writing, eating and driving, as well as social activities such as attending an event.
