Hilterapia - High Intensity LASER
What is it?
This is a pulsed neodymium YAG laser that emits light in the infrared range (1064 nm), differing from conventional lasers in its ability to act at depth.
HILT (High Intensity Laser Therapy) technology is a worldwide innovation in therapeutic lasers because of the unique ability of its light pulse to penetrate deep into tissue, delivering large amounts of energy without any risk to the human body, as the light is emitted in pulses rather than as a continuous beam.
Pulsed delivery allows the laser’s therapeutic energy to make full use of its biophysical effects on tissue: the photochemical, photomechanical and photothermal effects documented in several decades of experimental studies.
What are the benefits?
Results are immediate and impressive, especially for acute problems such as swelling after recent inflammation, orthopaedic surgery and recent traumatic injuries (sprains, muscle strains, fractures, etc.). Depending on the lesion, HILT creates ideal conditions to mobilise the affected area while significantly reducing pain. This makes it a powerful tool for physiotherapists trained in its use. Combined with specific manual mobilisation techniques and specialised therapeutic exercises, it offers an ideal intervention for many musculoskeletal dysfunctions and injuries.
Preliminary laboratory studies have produced very encouraging results in conditions involving degeneration of articular cartilage. Applying HILT to joints with cartilage damage appears to promote chondrocyte regeneration. These preliminary findings have been confirmed clinically through positive results in patients with osteoarthritic or traumatic changes to the cartilage surfaces of the knee, hip and hand joints.
