FunctionalTraining

What Is Functional Training?

Functional exercise mirrors the movements we make in everyday life: lifting and carrying, pushing a large object, throwing or kicking a ball. Treatment can include exercises that reflect what you do at home, at work or in sport, helping you return to those activities as quickly as possible after injury or surgery. If your job involves repeated lifting, rehabilitation focuses on lifting. For a parent of young children, the focus is moderate lifting and endurance; for a marathon runner, it is rebuilding endurance through running. We use body-weight exercises and equipment such as resistance bands, weights, steps, balance boards, Bosu balls, fitness balls and medicine balls. After assessing your condition, your therapist designs an individualised rehabilitation programme and agrees realistic, achievable treatment goals with you.

What Is Functional Training?

Functional exercise brings large muscle groups together through the body’s kinetic chains, addressing problems holistically. It can improve overall function by building muscle strength, flexibility and endurance. Better joint stability, coordination and muscle balance help make everyday activities easier. Functional movements and controlled progression of loads develop physical abilities while keeping stress on the body and joints to a minimum. Suitable for different fitness levels and stages of rehabilitation, this individualised approach supports functional independence.
