Plantar pressure analysis – what will it tell you about your feet?

Plantar pressure analysis – what is it and who performs it?

Plantar pressure analysis assesses how your feet work when you stand and walk.

If we identify dysfunction, the next step is to design and make a custom orthotic insole to wear inside your shoe.

Plantar pressure analysis is a scientific examination and must only be performed by an appropriately trained healthcare professional.

What will plantar pressure analysis reveal?

The examination gives us a detailed picture of your feet.

Static information: Static plantar pressure analysis shows how the anatomical structures in your foot work together to keep you upright.

Pressure points are studied to show how your body behaves when you are simply standing.

Dynamic information: Plantar pressure analysis uses scientific data and measurements to show how your foot works through a gait cycle, examining pressure across the 4 phases of walking.

Data are collected on possible asymmetries between your 2 feet.

Kinematic data are assessed, such as walking speed and the foot’s contact and swing times during gait.

Specialised algorithms combine the findings to identify biomechanical dysfunctions during walking, running, jumping and other activities.

Morphological information: Specialised technology and 3D imaging depict the shape of the main anatomical structures, allowing possible deviations from normal to be assessed.

Biomechanical analysis: Angles, moments, different forces and axial analyses form the most specialised stage of plantar pressure analysis.

We also assess the body’s entire biomechanical chain: how a dysfunctional foot can contribute to painful syndromes in other connected anatomical regions.

Very often, plantar pressure analysis will reveal fundamental causes of knee pain or lower back pain.

Plantar pressure analysis and TherapyLab

TherapyLab uses state-of-the-art equipment for plantar pressure analysis that assesses the foot in multiple dimensions and considers the whole body as an anatomical chain.

Our therapists are trained to perform plantar pressure analysis and interpret the results for the greatest patient benefit. Call us on (tel.) to find out more.
