Advanced Spinal Τhrust Manipulation
HVLA Manipulation Course
Programme Information
Format: Blended Learning – Standalone, two-day clinical seminar on spinal Thrust Manipulation techniques.
Duration: 16 hours of face-to-face training
Teaching language: Greek
Countries of delivery: Greece & Cyprus
Number of participants: Maximum 15 people
Participants: Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Osteopaths or other healthcare professionals
Content
Spinal pain is currently the leading cause of disability in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. Research has grown exponentially in recent years, yet incidence in the general population continues to rise. This brings a substantial socioeconomic burden and a growing need for effective, evidence-based interventions.
International clinical guidelines for spinal pain management place Thrust Manipulation joint mobilisation techniques at their core. Their immediate analgesic effect, improvement in range of movement and rapid reduction of functional limitations make them highly effective when clinicians know when and how to use them.
Seminar Objective
To help participants apply Thrust Manipulation techniques comprehensively, safely and on an evidence-based basis, developing contemporary clinical reasoning to improve effectiveness and ensure safe practice.
What participants will learn
Participants will develop all the practical and clinical skills required to use the techniques successfully in the:
- Cervical spine
- Thoracic spine
- Lumbar spine
with application in a variety of positions:
supine, side-lying, prone, sitting and standing.
Clinical integration & functional rehabilitation
The seminar focuses on both the chiropractic technique itself and its integration with patient education, contemporary pain education, dialogue and exercise, as this combination has been shown to:
- increase patients’ understanding of their pain
- strengthen confidence in treatment
- lead to a more sustained and functional return to daily activities
Seminar strengths:
Lecturers with research experience in the subject
Two lecturers at the seminar for higher-quality practical technique training
The only seminar combining thrust manipulation techniques with exercise and pain neuroscience
Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the Advanced Spinal Thrust Manipulation – HVLA Manipulation Course, participants will be able to:
Safety, Indications & Contraindications
- Accurately identify the indications, contraindications and relevant precautions for applying Thrust Manipulation techniques to the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.
- Apply evidence-based clinical screening procedures before the technique (pre-manipulative screening).
- Ensure a high level of safety, reducing the risk of adverse events and selecting the appropriate technique according to the patient’s history and clinical presentation.
Research Evidence & Mechanisms of Action
- Present current research evidence on the effectiveness of Thrust Manipulation for spinal pain.
- Explain the principal proposed mechanisms of action (neurophysiological, biomechanical, psychological).
- Integrate research evidence into clinical reasoning for targeted technique selection.
Combined Application with Exercise
- Select and apply appropriate types of therapeutic exercise (stabilization, mobility, motor control, functional training) following Thrust Manipulation.
- Understand how the combined intervention enhances neuromuscular retraining, improves motor control and promotes long-term outcomes.
- Create comprehensive treatment plans combining manipulation and exercise according to each clinical phenotype.
Integration into Everyday Clinical Practice
- Apply Thrust Manipulation in multiple positions (supine, side-lying, prone, sitting, standing) adapted to the needs of real cases.
- Use the techniques effectively as part of broader clinical reasoning, alongside patient education, graded exposure and functional training.
- Build the confidence and professional competence to use Thrust Manipulation safely and effectively in everyday evidence-based
