ΤΕCAR (Transfer Energy Capacitive and Resistive)
What is it?
TECAR (Transfer Energy Capacitive and Resistive) is one of the most modern methods for speeding up rehabilitation. This targeted radiofrequency treatment delivers high-frequency electromagnetic energy to the tissues being treated. As a form of endogenous thermotherapy, it uses two electrodes or modes. The capacitive electrode targets muscle layers with a higher fluid content, such as the quadriceps and deltoid muscles. The resistive electrode targets tissues with greater resistance: tendons, capsular and ligamentous structures and bone surfaces, including the supraspinatus tendon, Achilles tendon, bursae and lateral epicondyle of the elbow.
What are the benefits?
The benefits of TECAR therapy have been scientifically documented. Its main therapeutic applications focus on 3 principal physiological effects: relaxation, pain relief and metabolic stimulation. TECAR therapy provides immediate muscle relaxation, for example in overactive muscles such as the trapezius in patients with neck pain and prolonged poor posture at a desk, or the hamstrings in footballers.
It activates tissue metabolism, nutrient transport and collagen mobility, speeding healing and haematoma absorption after injuries such as muscle strains and sprains, and during postoperative rehabilitation. Increased local blood flow and oxygen delivery enhance lymphatic drainage and reduce swelling immediately. Muscle relaxation, reduced swelling, tissue regeneration, healing and endorphin release can all reduce symptoms, with relief possible from the first session.
Scientific research supports the use of TECAR therapy in physiotherapy. It helps treat pain associated with spinal conditions, joint pain, muscle pain, rheumatic problems and arthropathies. It is also useful in treating sports injuries and enhances other physiotherapy interventions by accelerating rehabilitation.
