Therapeutic Massage
What is it?
Massage has been part of physiotherapy from the beginning. Practised in most cultures for thousands of years, it uses touch as a means of healing, combining stretching and pressure in a rhythmic flow. A specialist physiotherapist selects the methods best suited to the areas that need attention. Therapeutic massage uses techniques such as pressure, friction and kneading to work on the muscles and other soft tissues.
Therapeutic massage includes different types:
- Functional massage: combined with movement therapy
- Deep tissue massage: using more intensive deep-tissue techniques and equipment
- Lymphatic Massage
- Sports Massage for the rehabilitation and prevention of sports injuries
What are the benefits?
Therapeutic massage aims to relieve discomfort, promote relaxation and leave the body feeling refreshed. It releases muscle spasms and tension caused by injury, overuse — repeated activity without rest — or stress. Specialist techniques can support the circulatory and lymphatic systems. Pain and symptoms noticeably decrease during and after a session, with significant pain relief in the treated area. Increasing joint mobility and muscle flexibility helps accelerate rehabilitation and prevent future injuries. Therapeutic massage also plays an important part in reducing anxiety and improving quality of life.
