Format: Seminar on the Management of Cervicobrachial Pain: A Structured Rehabilitation Approach (Step by Step)
Duration: 6 hours of face-to-face training
Teaching language: English
Country of delivery: Greece
Number of participants: Maximum 15 people

Content
The Management of Cervicobrachial Pain: Small Wins Approach seminar develops advanced clinical expertise in the assessment, differential diagnosis and management of cervicobrachial pain for physiotherapists, clinicians and academics. Participants learn a structured, step-by-step approach to clinical decisions, using physical examination findings to select and progress therapeutic interventions at each stage of rehabilitation.
Seminar Objective
The seminar develops structured clinical reasoning for the comprehensive assessment and targeted management of Cervicobrachial Pain. Its person-centred, experiential approach aims to improve therapeutic outcomes.
Participants learn to link physical examination findings systematically with individualised therapeutic interventions and apply them effectively in everyday evidence-based clinical practice.
Session 1: Assessment of Cervicobrachial Pain
- History Taking: A structured approach to history taking, focusing on symptom onset, aggravating and easing factors, and pain behaviour.
- Physical Examination: Experiential training in observation, palpation, range-of-movement assessment, neurological screening and specific symptom provocation tests.
- Clinical Reasoning: Synthesis of clinical findings to formulate working hypotheses and identify clinical signs in detail, guiding therapists towards progressive interventions appropriate to each stage of rehabilitation.
Under Dr Saad’s guidance, participants practise assessment techniques on patients and one another, refining their observation skills and their use of specific mobilisation and manual therapy techniques.
Session 2: Differential Diagnosis
- Key Clinical Features: Differentiating cervicobrachial pain from other cervical spine and upper limb pathologies (e.g. radiculopathy, referred pain, local nerve entrapment).
- Red Flags: Identifying serious underlying conditions (e.g. infection, neoplasia, vascular insufficiency) requiring immediate further investigation or referral.
- Decision-Making Process: A systematic approach to differential diagnosis based on physical examination findings and the patient’s history.Groups analyse clinical scenarios (case vignettes), explain their reasoning and discuss individualised rehabilitation plans.
Session 3: Management Strategies – A Structured Approach
- Selection of Therapeutic Interventions: Selecting appropriate interventions (manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, patient education) tailored to assessment findings.
- Structured “small wins” approach: Emphasis on realistic, progressive therapeutic goals (e.g. increased range of movement, reduced pain, improved function) to enhance adherence and clinical progress.
- Practical Applications: Presentation of real clinical cases with comprehensive assessment, treatment planning and intervention delivery, with immediate feedback.
Participants will rotate through practical stations, applying interventions under the supervision of Dr Saad, with immediate feedback.
Case Studies: Group Discussion and Analysis
Small groups work through real clinical cases, analysing assessment findings, differential diagnosis and treatment options. Each group presents its approach, with a focus on progression and its effect on clinical outcomes.
Live Demonstrations: Assessment and Management
Dr Saad demonstrates clinical assessment and the choice of targeted therapeutic interventions on consenting patients, connecting theory with practice. Participants then could practise under supervision, refining their technical precision and clinical reasoning.
Q&A and Closing
- Key Takeaways: A summary of key points and practical applications for clinical practice.
- Feedback: Sharing experiences, comments and suggestions for future educational activities.
- Additional Resources: Recommended reading, guidelines and continuing professional development opportunities. End of form
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the Management of Cervicobrachial Pain: Small Wins Approach seminar, participants will be able to:
- Develop practical skills in assessing cervicobrachial pain
- Develop appropriate clinical reasoning and undertake differential diagnosis of dysfunctions and problems associated with cervicobrachial pain
- Apply management strategies focusing on appropriate therapeutic interventions
- Apply theoretical knowledge through practice with real patients and clinical case analysis
