THERAPYLEG

For Rehabilitation of Lower Limb Conditions

Individualised therapeutic exercise provides a safe way for patients to return gradually to everyday activities. Its aims are symptom management, a full return to functional activities and injury prevention.

WHEN DOES IT HELP?

TherapyLeg is a specialised therapeutic exercise programme for comprehensive rehabilitation of lower limb conditions, surgery and musculoskeletal injuries involving the hip, knee and foot. These include sciatica, trochanteritis, osteoarthritis, hip and knee replacement, piriformis syndrome, iliotibial band syndrome, quadriceps strain, hamstring tendinitis, patellar chondropathy, meniscal injuries, cruciate and collateral ligament injuries and tears, Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis and fractures.

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE, AND WHY IS IT SUITABLE FOR YOU?

Your physiotherapist assesses you before designing an individualised TherapyLeg therapeutic exercise programme. The assessment covers joint range of movement, lower limb muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, neuromuscular coordination and balance, movement patterns and lower limb functional skills.

The TherapyLeg therapeutic exercise programme includes motor control, strengthening, muscle-building, flexibility, proprioception, balance, neuromuscular coordination and speed exercises, along with functional lower limb exercises to retrain walking and running, partial and deep squats, lunges, kicks, and going up and down stairs.

WHICH METHODS AND TOOLS DO WE USE TO ACHIEVE OUR GOAL?

The TherapyLeg pathway uses different forms of therapeutic exercise, including Clinical Pilates on the mat and Reformer, Clinical Suspension Training and Functional Training with small equipment such as weights, resistance bands, balance discs, hurdles, different walking surfaces and steps.

The programme aims to restore normal walking and running, rebuild lower limb strength and return the patient to everyday, recreational and sporting activities.
