THERAPYARM

For Rehabilitation of Upper Limb Conditions

The physiotherapy interventions we choose depend on each patient’s assessment and clinical presentation. Individualised therapeutic exercise is central to reducing symptoms, eliminating dysfunction, fully restoring function and preventing injury.

WHEN DOES IT HELP?

The TherapyArm therapeutic exercise programme is a specialised rehabilitation plan for upper limb conditions, syndromes, post-operative conditions and injuries involving the shoulder girdle, shoulder, elbow and hand.

Conditions addressed through this pathway include rotator cuff tendinopathy, shoulder surgery, shoulder dislocation, frozen shoulder, biceps tendinitis, elbow tendinitis – tennis elbow, ulnar neuritis, de Quervain’s tenosynovitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, finger tendinitis, fractures and ligament tears.

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE, AND WHY IS IT SUITABLE FOR YOU?

A physiotherapist specialising in therapeutic exercise assesses each patient before planning their TherapyArm programme. The assessment examines movement quality, joint range of movement, strength and muscle balance during functional tasks involving the shoulder girdle, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. This physical examination guides a specialist programme tailored to each person.

The TherapyArm therapeutic exercise programme includes stabilisation and motor control exercises for the trunk and scapular muscles, progressive strengthening of the entire upper limb, restoration of muscle balance, increased mobility and flexibility, and specialised exercises to restore arm and hand functions such as weight-bearing support, raising the arm, pushing and pulling, taking weight and throwing.

WHICH METHODS AND TOOLS DO WE USE TO ACHIEVE OUR GOAL?

TherapyArm therapeutic exercise combines Clinical Pilates on the mat and Reformer, Clinical Suspension Training and Functional Training with small equipment, including weights, resistance bands, fitness balls, small balls and specialist hand equipment. The aim is to restore full arm and hand function and help you return to everyday activities, recreation and sport.
