Bone is living tissue that is continually broken down and regenerated. Osteoporosis occurs when the formation of new bone does not keep pace with the loss of old bone, leading to reduced bone density. Its various causes include long-term cortisone use, hormonal disorders, family history, poor diet, smoking, alcohol and lack of exercise. Medication, a healthy diet and weight training can help prevent bone loss and strengthen already weakened bones.<\/p><p>Therapeutic exercise and physical activity have been shown to play an important role in increasing bone density and muscle strength.
